Bathroom Additions
Bathroom Additions are a nice way to expand a master bathroom. Many times the existing bathroom area is not large enough to allow for a significant remodel. You are forced to do what we call “pull and play”, which means everything stays in the same place but you update it. Too really change things around we have to do a Bathroom Addition. Sometimes this is only a 2’ bump out, but it can add a tremendous amount of space to the bathroom area. Other times the Bathroom Additions consists of adding on an entire wing. This usually includes a new master closet, large shower with multiple shower heads, a large garden tub and sometimes even a sauna. By adding on a Bathroom Addition wing we are able to remodel the existing bedroom and make it larger by removing the closet and bath areas into the new wing. We can also add Bathroom Additions to the second floor, or attic space of a two story home. If space is limited and the lot is tight we can add space by removing part of the roof and adding a full shed dormer across the back. This gives us plenty of space for a large master bathroom. Most Bathroom Additions are on the main floor. These are the most cost effective to do. If it is on the first floor but the foundation is a basement we can build it up on block pillars and brick the outside of it. This could provide a covered patio area underneath. We like to design the Bathroom Additions so that they blend in with the rest of the house. You don’t want an addition to look like a sore thumb, but rather like it was part of the original design. A bathroom addition is a good time to add items you have been dreaming of. We can add a heated tile floor that has a timer on it to come on before you get up in the morning and goes off when you leave for work. How about a shower full of body sprays, you can even have a removable hand wand to help you rinse off and also help while cleaning the shower. Some people like a big rain head in the ceiling of the shower. If you like steam showers this would be a good time to install a steam unit. If you have multiple shower heads you might want to consider an on-demand water heater like a Rinnai unit. This is a product that makes a lot of since; you only heat the water when you are ready to use it. I think that within the next 10-15 years over half the water heaters out there will be converted to these. Bathroom additions are also the time to change out the vanity cabinets. The just-right height vanities are the norm today along with chair height toilets. These are things that are very nice to have and after you have tried them you will wonder why they waited so long to develop them. There are times when these are not appropriate. If you have family members that are not very tall they may want to stick with the conventional heights vanities and toilets. Adding grab bars is also a great idea this can make it much safer getting in and out of the shower. Most new showers we install have the frameless glass shower doors, this makes the room seem much larger and allows natural light into the shower. The vanity tops are an area you can make a real design statement. You can use exotic Granite or perhaps natural Quartz for a more even look. No matter how you design your Bathroom Addition it will be an elegant part of your house. Contact us today for an appointment by filling out our online form - Bathroom Additions Atlanta GA
